The Big Brain Extravaganza!
The Big Brain Extravaganza! launched in Bloomington, Indiana in 2012. The brainchild of Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor with sculptural assist from Joe LaMantia, the mission was to raise awareness of how the brain functions. Dr. Taylor, a world-renowned neuroscientist, documented her own stroke and raised awareness in her book and Ted Talk, My Stroke of Insight.
Rubber Stamp Storage
How we manage thousands of rubber stamps. Jon built these indexing drawers for studio management and workflow. Nothing better!
My Mother, My Angel
"My Mother, My Angel" is 45" x 45". Dedicated to my Mom in heaven who knew I was an artist before I did. She gave me possibilities, hope and courage to do in life whatever would make me happy.
I have done that.
This piece celebrates her and all women who are following their passion.
Dia de los Muertos Altar
This special Altar was created for remembrance of my parents. It was first featured in the Indianapolis Arts Center and later at the Indiana State Museum.
While they were engaged, my father was in the Marine Corps and my mother was working in New York. Miles apart, they wrote to one another daily. Some of their letters adorn this altar as papel picados.
My Mother died of breast cancer when she was 45 and my Father died unexpectedly on Easter Sunday many years later. At that point, they were reunited.
Art heals and letters mingle souls.
Honoring Frida Kahlo
This tabletop bust honors the iconic Frida Kahlo. I applied the same technique as the Big Brain and My Mother, My Angel by applying hand-stamped tissue with messages and graphics. The monarch wings complete the piece. It now resides in the private collection of a passionate collector.
